Social bookmarking websites allow you to bookmark a link of interest to a website and later retrieve it from any computer. Remember when you would have to write down websites you liked or could not access or recall a website because you were nowhere near your computer. Well not anymore, now you have access to improve your internet experience through the use of these social bookmarking websites.
I have compiled a list of my top 10 social bookmarking sites. Some of the criteria I used to come up with this list include:
Blinklist: Blinklist is very user-friendly. Any first time user on this website will have no problem finding their way around the website. Once you add your bookmark, it very simple to view it at any time. All bookmarks are saved with a screenshot of the website, short description, and the URL.
Digg: Digg is a very recognized social news website with a very positive reputation. It was due to the popularity of digg.com that many other social networking websites were formed. Anything bookmarked to digg.com will rank high on Google and other search engines. Digg.com meets all the criteria’s used for this list, it is very user-friendly, easy to use and has many users.
Newsvine: Newsvine is excellent because not only can you bookmark content on your website, but you can also view all the up-to-date news information all other users have to offer. An excellent advantage is that newsvine.com has so many users that the possibility of attracting many readers is unavoidable, which is excellent for your business.
Marketingland: Marketing Land is one of my favorite websites for many reasons. One, it is very easy to navigate (I like easy). Second, it breaks down all news posts, for example, “hot news” is broken down into sections that are very important to the success of every website like SEO and PPC, etc..
Stumbleupon: Stumbleupon is a social bookmarking site primarily focussing on exploring new and interesting information from the world wide web. The creators of this site exude confidence about finding the most helpful and interesting websites for the topics required by the user. With a view to providing flawless service, they also take the feedback from their users regularly. They ask the client to mention his feedback through likes and dislikes thus helping them understand the need of the client better and based on the result, they could change their recommendations. One can use this interface to find information about anything that could be thought about – be it sports, politics, photography etc.
Reddit: Stories submitted to Reddit immediately available for readers to view and vote. Like other social bookmarking websites, more votes on your post the higher the rank it will receive. Once s registered user, you have access to view your submitted bookmarks along with those bookmarks that were either liked or disliked by other readers. This is an excellent tool to help you track not only whether it was liked but also if it was read.
Delicious: Delicious is an excellent source for social bookmarking which allows its users to create tags, save them to your account and share all tags with the public. As said by delicious.com “Delicious greatly improves how people discover, remember and share on the Internet.” Once again, very user-friendly and easy to bookmark websites. Delicious is owned by Yahoo and is a must-have for your social media and bookmarking strategy.
Propeller: Remember Netscape? For those of you who do, Netscape was purchased by AOL in 1998 and is now better known as Propeller, which is an excellent social bookmarking community. Once an account is created and a link has been added, readers can vote, comment, share with a friend or even bookmark for later reading. Sources say they should be redesigning the website’s appearance soon, looking forward to it.
Twitter: Twitter is today known more as a social networking site, but it can also be included as a top social bookmarking site. Apart from keeping in touch with people as in any social networking site, one can post links about various topics of interest. Fellow users can access these links and share their opinion, discuss relevant topics and thus spread the word around conveniently. The basis of information shared on Twitter is 140-word news feeds called tweets. People can write tweets that can be viewed and responded to by those who “follow” them. The uniqueness of this site is that it has a right mix of networking and bookmarking and people tweet on the go. It is being used to voice opinions and share photos, videos and such helping people bond in a more positive way.
Squidoo: Squidoo was set up in 2005 with a mission to help writers express their ideas through well written, original information that can be made available on the web to those who share similar interests. This is an open and free environment that enables users to search a variety of topics and interact with others who share their enthusiasm regarding the same. This social bookmarking website helps create portfolios of beautiful web pages for users who wish to publish their works. An interesting incentive here is that if any page does well, it earns a royalty to the writer. This unique feature works as a good motivation for the writers to strive harder.
Social bookmarking websites have become a popular way to store, manage and share links on the internet.
