How to Make Your Bedroom Perfect for Sleep

You have probably noticed how the office space where you work is meticulously designed to provide the workers with comfort so as to increase productivity. This is not only true for commercial space, but for homes as well. Each room can be designed to match the activity that takes place in it. Bathrooms have neatly placed windows over the toilet bowl, kitchens have exhaust hoods over the stove, and bedrooms have… Wait, do bedrooms have special design intended to make you sleep comfortably? The answer is yes, they do, and we are going to demonstrate that you yourself can make the bedroom the perfect place for rest in your home.

Air temperature

In order for you to rest, the temperature of the air inside the bedroom must be ideal. People often make the mistake of making the room either too hot or too cold which disrupts their sleep without them even realizing it. During the day you may want one temperature inside the house but during night time a different temperature is needed. It has been scientifically proven that lower temperatures are more suitable during sleep. That is why you should set the thermostat to lower the temperature overnight so the quality of the sleep would be better.

The right color pattern

No matter how much a cheerful person you are, bright colors have no place in the bedroom. It will be harder to go to sleep if the walls are pink, bright yellow or orange. The brain will inadvertently get distracted by these tacky colors and you will not be able to fall asleep. It is better to use darker shades, such as blue, green or even grey. They will send a subtle signal to the brain that the time for rest has come and it can slowly switch off. If you simply cannot do without bright colors, then your pillows, sheets or the artwork can be of a brighter color.

Window tinting

Both the air temperature and the color of the walls we have discussed so far concern creating the perfect atmosphere to sleep. In order for the process to be complete, you have to isolate the bedroom in a certain way. This means that no outside element can influence the quality of your sleep. Windows are not only important because of sounds isolation and insulation, but also for letting the sunlight in. People who live in places like Australia which has a huge sun exposure know what we mean by this. That is why window tinting in Brisbane, let’s say, is a necessity rather a luxury. Preventing the sun from hitting you right in the eyes during the afternoon nap can mean the difference between being tired or relaxed for the rest of the day.

Fall asleep to the sound of music

Much like color, sound also contributes to a good night’s sleep. Natural sounds, such as the flow of water, crickets at night or simply the sound of wind can help you fall asleep faster. You can recreate these sounds in your bedroom with a CD or a playlist with ambient music. Another option is to place a small fountain next to the bed or hang chimes at the porch or in front of the window.

The bedroom is for sleeping only

On common mistake people make is turning their bedroom into what’s not. Some use it as the office, some as the living room and some even as the larder. Keep in mind that any activity other than sleep takes away from the chance for a good night’s sleep. If your brain recognizes this space as a work space you can say goodbye to sleep. The bedroom should be a single purpose room.

The bed

The final piece of the puzzle is the bed you sleep on and needless to say, it has to be comfortable. It is the centerpiece of the bedroom and the reason behinds its existence. The bed is actually the mattress, as its quality determines the quality of your sleep. Always chose the best quality mattresses. It shouldn’t be older than half a decade, it shouldn’t have any holes in it (obviously), and finally, it has to be hard. Soft mattresses are appealing, but you will never rest sleeping on them. Also, the size of the bed should match your size, as it is not desirable that your legs protrude from the frame.

It all comes down to the ambient you sleep in. The sole purpose of the bedroom is to provide the ideal conditions for sleep. This is something that is not hard to achieve and you can easily do it. These 6 simple pieces of advice will ensure that you sleep like a baby.
