Chrome will allow you to create virtual bank cards

As part of the Google I/O conference, Google developers talked about the many innovations in the field of privacy and security, including support for virtual bank cards on Android and Chrome. This will hide your credit or debit card number when you shop online.

“When you use autofill to enter your payment details at checkout, virtual cards will add an extra layer of security and the actual card number will be replaced with a separate virtual number,” the developers say.

The company explained that the main purpose of this innovation is to ensure the security of payment information during online purchases and protect users from so-called skimming attacks, when attackers inject malicious JavaScript code into pages to steal bank card numbers (and then sell this data on the black market).

This eliminates the need for users to manually enter card details (such as CVV and number) at checkout, and allows cards and transactions to be managed through pay.google.com.

It is expected that this functionality will first appear in the US (as early as this summer) and will support Visa, American Express, Mastercard, and Capital One cards. Virtual cards will first be available to desktop and Android users, and later there will be a version for iOS.
