The day I decided to change my perception towards life was the day I allowed myself to be more positive and happy. It was not the things happening in our life that cause sufferings to us. But it is always our reaction to the events that steal the peace of mind.
When I was 18 years old, I started my journey as a self-improvement writer. I read hundreds of books and modeled them. I made mistakes, faced disappointments and learned the art of dealing with the frustration that comes after each failure and rejection.
What I learned is that after facing the difficulties of life we become more calm and firm. And the bliss we attain after the storm lasts forever.
Truly, it does not happen with everyone.
Some people start taking the event as a negative experience and develop a negative attitude. They hold grudges and resentments against the people and events. The same people blame the world for being cruel and unfaithful. What they forget in the terrible times is the optimism.
Now, how to think positive and bring back the happiness when you’ve been through difficult moments in the past?
Find good about bad events
This is the easiest approach I’ve been following to overcome the effect of bad events. When something terrible occurs in my life, I accept the situation as it is and try to find what good I can learn from this. Surely, there would be something I did in a wrong way that dropped me in such circumstances. Where was I wrong? What was my mistake? What can I learn from it?
Doing so help me in two ways
Sometimes you don’t have any other choice other than accepting the events as it is. Learn and move on.
Stop the unnecessary drama
As one of the famous keep calm quote, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% of how I react to it. It’s not always necessary to make a mountain out of a molehill.
You can simply let go of the people and their mistakes. Like you make mistakes, others too have the right to do the same. If you keep on pinpointing someone about their faults, you are unnecessary creating a negative surrounding for yourself.
Take a deep breath and let go of the mistakes done by others. You don’t have to punish yourself for others. When you get angry, you are creating problems for yourself and not for others.
We all are equal. No one here is perfect. So treat everyone in a way you treat yourself.
Take a small step
Do you want to remain happy? Start with a smile. Do you want to grow your business? Accomplish the task at your hand. Do you want to stay positive? Increase your expectations and hopes for yourself.
It’s always small steps that create a big change in life over the period.
Happiness is a state of mind. It cannot be achieved by winning the world outside. It can only be savored by mastering the world within.
Self-improvement is a continuous process. Great saints, leaders and successful people are not born. They develop themselves by overcoming the shortcomings in their behavior. By taking the subject of self-improvement seriously, a positive and happy life is attainable.
